Reliance Jio introduces Affordable “True Unlimited Upgrade” Plans for 5G Access Starting at Rs 51

The Digitrendz: Reliance Jio has discreetly launched three new “true unlimited upgrade” prepaid plans, making unlimited 5G data more accessible. These booster packs, available at Rs 51, Rs 101, and Rs 151, can be added to any existing plan.

Tariff Hike and Access Restrictions

On July 3, 2024, Jio raised its tariffs, limiting unlimited 5G access to plans offering 2GB of data per day or more. The new truely unlimited upgrade plans eliminate this restriction, allowing users with 1GB/day and 1.5GB/day plans to also enjoy unlimited 5G data.

Rs 61 Plan Replacement

The Brand has done a plan replacement that is “5G upgrade” plan at Rs. 61, add-on plan is replaced with Rs. 101 plan, the add on tariff allowed users to try its 5G services with any active plan and included a 6GB data capearlier, has been hiked and replaced by the Rs 101 plan.

Changes in Jio’s Welcome Offer

Previously, Jio’s Welcome Offer could be activated with any prepaid or postpaid plan priced at Rs 239 or higher. After the price hike, the Rs 239 prepaid plan has increased by Rs 60 and no longer includes the unlimited 5G benefit, offering only 1.5GB of daily data.

Higher-Priced Plans for Unlimited 5G

To enjoy unlimited 5G, customers now need to choose higher-priced plans. The most affordable prepaid plan offering 2GB/day data is now Rs 349. The new true unlimited upgrade plans are designed to provide an economical alternative for users who want to maximize their data usage without a significant increase in expenses.

These changes signify strategic adjustment in its 5G offerings, balancing customer retention with the costs of providing high-speed 5G services. Competitor Watch: Bharti Airtel

It will be interesting to see if Bharti Airtel introduces similar 5G upgrade plans for its customers, as it currently offers unlimited 5G with 2GB/day and above plans.

The brands latest move reflects its commitment to expanding 5G access while managing the associated costs, making high-speed internet more affordable for its user base.
